The Obstacle Is the Way

Two thousand years ago, the most powerful man on Earth wrote himself a reminder. Marcus Aurelius, Emperor of Rome, woke before dawn and told himself: today I will meet busybodies, ingrates, and liars — and I will not be surprised, because I expected them. Then he wrote the line that outlived his empire: the impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way. Your problem is not the obstacle. Your problem is believing the obstacle should not be there.

Memento Mori

The Stoics kept a skull on their desk. Not to be morbid — to be honest. Seneca wrote that we do not have a short life, we waste a long one. Every morning, ask yourself: if this were my last day, would I spend it scrolling? Memento mori — remember you will die — is not about fear. It is about focus. The deadline you cannot move is the only one that makes everything else clear.
