How to Convert Your Script into a Video (Free Checklist)

You've got a script — maybe from our studio, maybe written by hand. Here's the free 6-step checklist that turns it into a finished vertical video. No paid plan required at any step.

The checklist

1. Lock the script and its timing. 120–180 words for a 60-second short. Run it through the voiceover timing calculator — fix the length in text, where edits are free, not in the editor.
2. Generate the voiceover. Preview AI voices to find one that fits the story's mood. Faceless channels live or die on narration — don't settle for the first robotic voice you try.
3. Export timed subtitles. Turn the final script into an .srt subtitle file (or .vtt for YouTube). Timed captions are non-negotiable: most viewers watch shorts with sound off at first.
4. Assemble in a free editor. CapCut desktop or mobile, 9:16 timeline: narration on the audio track, background footage (gameplay, stock) underneath. Import the .srt with our CapCut import guide.
5. Style the captions. Short punchy cues — 1–3 words per cue, pop-in animation, high contrast. OfTale's SRT export supports 1-word-per-cue TikTok pop style out of the box.
6. Export and upload. 1080×1920, 30fps. Upload natively to TikTok / Shorts / Reels — native uploads outperform cross-posted watermarks.

When is a paid renderer worth it?

Tools like Pictory, Revid or InVideo automate steps 2–5: paste a script, get back an assembled video. That automation is worth paying for when you publish daily at volume. But note the trade-off creators report: automated assembly still needs manual fixes (mismatched footage, flat pacing), and every re-render burns credits. For learning the format — or publishing a few videos a week — the free checklist above produces better scripts and costs nothing. A sensible path: master the free workflow first, then pay for automation once the volume justifies it.

Who is this for?

Faceless channel owners. Batch-render a week's worth of scripts in one sitting.

Small businesses. Turn customer testimonials into video ads without hiring a crew.

Educators. Turn lesson scripts into narrated clips students can replay.
