A short video script is not a short essay. Viewers decide in about two seconds whether to keep watching, so every line has one job: earn the next three seconds. Here's the exact structure that works across story niches — mystery, Reddit drama, history facts, all of it.
Pattern interrupt + curiosity gap + implied value, in a single opening line:
"The flight landed with 143 passengers. It took off with 144."
"This logbook entry stops mid-sentence — and the handwriting changes."
"Delete this app from your phone tonight. Here's what it was doing."
Open with the anomaly, never the setup. "In 1974, there was a lighthouse keeper" is setup — the viewer is already gone.
Keep the whole thing to 120–180 words for a 45–60 second short. That range is the sweet spot for completion rate, the metric the algorithm cares about most.
Each beat is one idea, roughly one spoken sentence. Stack them so each beat collapses the previous explanation: empty seat → scanned boarding pass → bag still in the overhead bin → name still on the manifest. Paste a draft into the sentence splitter to see your beats laid out, and run it through the voiceover timing calculator before you record anything.
Study viral story shorts for their structure — where the hook lands, how often the visual changes, where the question drops. Then write original scripts in that structure. Need starting material? The mystery shorts templates and urban legends scripts are original fiction built exactly on this formula — load one into the studio and dissect it.
Faceless creators. A hook-first structure for shorts you never have to film.
Marketers. Turn a product story or testimonial into a 60-second ad that holds attention.
